Pennsylvania (PA) March 2010 Unemployment Rate Rises

The Pennsylvania Unemployment Rate for March 2010 rose from 8.9 percent to 9 percent, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry.

The rate was up 1.5 percentage points from March 2009.

The department said resident employment increased by 2,000 in March but the “seasonally adjusted civilian labor force — the number of people working or looking for work — rose by 6,000.”

The seasonally adjusted nonfarm jobs count rose by 22,600 last month, with gains in the education and health services (6,700), leisure and hospitality (5,200) and construction (4,900) sectors.

The national unemployment rate is 9.7 percent. In February, the most recent month for which figures have been released, the rate was 9.8 percent.
